Shani and Amilia RP - Treading on Ice

It was early in the morning when Amilia stood up. She walked out of the gladiators den and looked around. The sun shined bright and it was warm for winter. She breathed in and out. Today would be a great day, she thought. Not far from her she saw a young liger playing in the snow. And because she had no plan for the day, she decided to go to the young liger.

"Hello!" she said friendly. "Are you playing alone in the snow?".

Amilia was still new in the Lightning Empire and to make some friends wouldn't be that bad.

Shani walked out of the apprentice den and breathed in the crisp morning air. It was fairly warm out but there was snow on the ground. Her breath made little wisps of steam in the air. She ran around like a young cub. Leaping up in the air, she rolled in the snow a few times, spraying loosened snow around. She didn't care who was watching. Then again it didn't seem like there were many cats around yet. The few that were looked at her oddly. It was a new experience for Shani since when she was very little and lived in the city she never had the opportunity to really play in it. Suddenly, she heard a voice.

"Hello! Are you playing alone in the snow?"

Shani looked up to see an older, female leopard standing over her. She rolled back over and shook snow off her coat.

"Eheheh, Hello! Yes I am."

She smiled at the female.

"Are you new? I haven't seen you around before."

She smiled as the liger looked confused at her.

"Yes kind of. I spent the last weeks here already, but I'm still new here, I think" she said friendly.

"Soo. Do you have any plans for the day, already?"she added. Maybe they could hunt together or spend some time together. Amilia looked again at Shani. She made her think of Scion.

"Yes kind of. I spent the last weeks here already, but I'm still new here, I think."

Shani flipped her tail and grinned. "I've only been here a few days now.. maybe a week? I'm not sure. I'm surprised I haven't really seen you around before. I guess we keep missing each other."

Shani laughed.

"Soooo... Do you have any plans for the day, already?"

Shani shook her head. "I actually don't have anything going on today. I'm pretty open. Where you thinking of going somewhere? I'd like to come if you don't mind. I think the older ones might discourage us apprentices from going out all by ourselves.. Especially us new ones."

"Nice to hear, me neither." She said.

She looked around."We could go out for a hunt, huh?"

The weather was still nice and it would be a good practice for Shani too. Maybe she could give her some defense training, maybe if she want. There are so many things they could do.
Because of this nice thoughts she began to smile a little bit.

Amilia liked Shani she rembered her at herself. To be childish and no one cares about that. Yes this time is over, unfortunately.

"We could go out for a hunt, huh?"

Amilia started to smile a bit.

"Yea! That would be fun! I don't have a mentor yet, and they are taking so long to give me one."
She bowed playfully. Amilia was so nice! She was one of the first older cats to really show interest in her.

"Let's do it! Where do you want to go first?"

Amilia thought. We could they go hunting? They could go to the lake, maybe it's frozen. That would be a lot of fun. Also there are some woods where they could hunt.

"Let us go to the woods near the river" she looked playful at her "Maybe it's frozen."

Both of the walked out of the embrace. " Do have already somebody you wished as mentor maybe?" she said. "I mean, I'm not the first one talking to you and I guess you already made some friends." she added friendly while she was looking at her.

"Let us go to the woods near the river. Maybe it's frozen."

"Sure!' Shani followed her. "The river? I don't think it's cold enough for the river with all that moving water."

Amilia started walking and Shani followed her.

"Do you already have somebody you wished as a mentor maybe?" Amilia asked her. "I mean, I'm not the first one talking to you and I guess you already made some friends."

"I have no idea who I want.. Someone nice! Maybe a girl.." She laughed. "I wish it was my father, but I think he has a mentor already.. Maybe you?"

She looked shyly away.

"I guess it will be chosen randomly. I don't think I have a say in it. Yes, I think I have a few friends, but I haven't been here long.."

"I never had an apprentice before. It would be a nice experience." She looked at Shani and noticed that she looked shyly away so she added " But you're right we can't decide that."
Then she thought what Shani said. Her father. "May I ask who your father is?"

"Oh! My father is Scion! Well.. he's not my REAL father, technically, but he's the closest thing I have to one. My actual, blood father is a lion, but I never knew him. See, since I'm a liger, my mother is a tiger. Scion took care of my brother and I when we were younger, and was like a father to us. I never new my real father, so Scion is as real as it gets for me." Shani laughed.

"A long time ago, My mother, father (Scion), brother and I lived in the human's city. One night, my parents had enough living there and decided to run away. That same night, my mother went crazy and attacked me, but my brother tried to help and he was killed instead. My father saved me and I escaped with my aunt. We've been roaming the forest for months and got separated in a storm. I got washed down a river and finally arrived here. Then I found my father again, right here in the Lightning empire! It was a big surprise! I barely recognized him! It's been so long!" Shani laughed and trotted playfully.

"S-Scion is your father?" she spent the last day with him. He showed her the borders and this day was.. She had to forget that. " I mean I don't mind about that" she murmured. But she mind about that but why?

They are only friends nothing more but Amilia felt good next to him. Amilia's cheeks got a red touch but she tried to covered that as she said "soo.. do you want to show me how fast you are? What do you think about a little race?"

"S-Scion is your father? I mean I don't mind about that"

Shani looked at Amilia and watched her blush. Amilia quickly asked, "soo.. do you want to show me how fast you are? What do you think about a little race?"

Shani grinned. "Sure, we can race, but I'm not very fast.. What did Dad do by the way?" She had caught on something happened.

Amilia ignored the question Shani asked. She didn't want to answer what he did, she didn't want to think about that. Not now. Later, maybe.

Then she started to run but not fast. So that's easy for Shani to be faster. And Shani was fast, she was so fast that Amilia really had to speed up. "You lied Shani, you're damn fast!".she called. Then they reached the lake. Amilia sat down and took a deep breath. "Wow, you're much faster then I expected." She said, and smiled at her. " Well done" she added.

Shani jumped up in surprise as Amilia took off running. She was a bit saddened that Amalia didn't seem to want to answer the question, but just shrugged it off and lumbered after the older cat. Maybe she didn't hear me? Or... what could have happened? Shani giggled to herself.

Amalia didn't seem to be running at full pace, probably wanting Shani to catch up, so with heavy pawsteps, Shani lunged toward Amalia, trying to catch up with her. She watched as Amalia quickened her pace. "You lied Shani, you're damn fast!". Shani laughed happily. She never really had anyone to play chase with! Finally, they reached a big lake. Shani flopped down on her stomach, panting. Amalia sat down and took a deep breath, not nearly as winded as Shani.

"Wow, you're much faster then I expected. Well done."

Shani smiled back at her. "That was fun! What did you want to do first?"

She looked over the lake. "Wow! It's really pretty!"

Amilia smiled when Shani looked exited at the frozen lake. "Isn't it?" she said. " It's still frozen but It will melt soon. We had a long winter but spring is coming, I can smell that" she sniffed.

"Let us try to walk a little bit on the ice layer. Hopefully it hold us" she added, and went to the lake. Then she sat on paw on it. Tried if it'll break. Now her whole body stand on the layer of ice. "Come Shani, it's save!" she called. Amilia slid over the lake a little bit. "Don't be scared it's fun!" she added. After saying that she lost her balance and slammed on the ground. She tried to cover this embarrassment with a smile.

Amilia  walked out onto the ice before Shani could stop her. Shani stared in horror as Amilia stepped gingerly, testing the ice. Then she slid a little. Shani was gripped in fear . "Come Shani, it's safe! Don't be scared, it's fun!" Then Amilia lost her balance and slammed onto the surface. Shani thought she heard a crack, and without a second thought, she leaped onto the ice toward the older female. "Ami..!" She also lost her balance and slid into Amilia, sending them a bit further onto the ice. Shani lay on her stomach. "Ah! I'm sorry!" She stammered, but she didn't dare stand.

Amilia grinned at Shani "It's ok. It seemed frozen lakes aren't good for big cats." She chuckled and slipped to the shore. She sat down and looked at Shani. Suddenly her stomach growled. "Uh, I forgot to eat something maybe we should hunt a little bit. What do you think?" She asked with a grin on her face.

Amilia grinned at her. "It's ok. It seems frozen lakes aren't good for big cats." Amilia slipped to the shore. Shani stayed lying down where she was. She was probably a bit heavier than Amilia. She shivered, terrified at what would happen if she moved. She wasn't horribly far out, but she would probably be completely submerged if the ice cracked. Amilia didn't seem to notice right away. "Uh, I forgot to eat something, maybe we should hunt a little bit. What do you think?" Shani's claws gripped the ice and she tried to move, but thought she heard cracking. "Ahh.. umm.. hunting sounds nice."

Amilia's ear flicked as she heard a crack. She didn't noticed that moments ago or that Shani is in an dangerous position. "Stay where you are!" She called and without thinkin she walked slowly on the ice again. Amilia was very skinny and not heavy in this case it was an advantage. Now she standed completely on the ice. Another crack. Panicly she jumped to Shani, bite her neck fur, pulled her up and tried to throw her to the shore. Suddenly she heard a lot of cracks and the ice broke. Amilia felt in the water but rammed her claws into the ice so that just half of her body was in the cold water. Carefully she climbed out and with some jumpes she sprang to the shore, next to Shani. Behind her there where holes in the ice where she jumped seconds ago. Amilia breathed heavily and looked to Shani. "Are-are you ok?" she asked. "I'm so sorry it's all my fault. I should know that it's to dangerous." She murmured.

"Stay where you are!" Amilia called to her. Shani wouldn't dream of moving. She was too frightened. Amilia started to walk slowly back on the ice. "D..Don't..!" Shani trembled, watching Amilia come back to her. Her movements caused the ice to pop again. She panicked and jumped to bite Shani's scruff and half shoved, half pushed her to land. The motion caused Amilia's back feet to crack through the ice. As Shani slid back to safety, she saw Amilia fall halfway into the cold water. Shani didn't move, watching in horror. Amilia struggled to pull herself out and succeeded. Shani scrambled off the ice. Her feet cracked through the thinner ice near the bank and she collapsed on dry land. Amilia came next to her, panting. "Are-are you ok? I'm so sorry it's all my fault. I should know that it's to dangerous." Shani shivered, her mind racing. She shivered and sobbed. "I... I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Tears began to fall.

"Hey, don't!" Amilia murmured crouched to Shani and embraced her. She tried to keep her warm and to calm her down. "It isn't your fault. It was stupid of myself to go on the ice, but way worse was to make you come on it too. I had to know that." She said lovingly, licked the Shani's head. Amilia felt so bad like never before. It was all her fault. Shani could be death now. If the ice had broken to early and she would felt into the cold water she could got a shock. Why have to went everything bad she did? Amilia licked Shani's fur and tried to get the ice out of it. She also licked her tears away. What has she done?

"Hey, don't!" Amilia embraced Shani, soothingly talking to her. She licked Shani's head with her rough tongue, then her cheeks. Shani looked up at Amilia, through tear filled eyes. "I'm sorry.. I should have.. acted.. I should have moved so you didn't have to.. You could have drowned.." She suddenly snapped out of it. "Ah..! Y.. You're soaking wet!" Amilia's whole back half was dripping water. Shani quickly moved away and began to lick Amilia's back and side. "You need to shake this water off!" She ignored her own cold paws. She felt a mixture of guilt and embarrassment for her actions. Her whole body still shook. She couldn't seem to calm down.

"I'm ok." Amilia said and stood up, shook of the water of her fur. Then she looked at Shani. She still seemed to be supercooled. Her paws seemed to be cold too and walking would be painful for Shani, Amilia thought. Without saying something she bitten Shani's neck fur and ran into the next woods. Arrived there she looked around and spotted a small den, but big enough for them. She walked to the entrance of it and looked in it. No enemies and it was moss and leaves in there and it was dry and not cold. Amilia decided to stay here until Shani feel better. She put her down in the den and put the moss around her. "This will keep you warm." she said. Shani needs something to eat, Amilia thought. "Wait a second!" she said, run out of the den and came back a couple of minutes later. "Eat that! You need it." She said, dropped a hare in front of Shani and liked her head, then sat next to her and waited.

Amilia shook the water off her fur and looked at Shani. Suddenly, without saying anything, she leaned over and grabbed Shani by the scruff, and dragged her into the woods. "Ah! Amilia, what are you?.." She trotted with her, awkwardly leaning over. Amilia pulled her over to a den entrance and pushed her inside. Shani flopped down on the ground and Amilia made a makeshift nest around them. "This will keep you warm.. Wait a second!" Amilia said and stood back up and raced out the den. "Wait!" Shani called after her, but Amilia was gone. With a sigh, Shani sat back down, unsure what to do. She tried to dry off her paws. It was wet outside, and a little chilly, so Shani knew she had to clean them off before wandering around. A short while later, Amilia appeared again. "Eat that! You need it." She dropped a hare in front of Shani and gave her a lick on her head, sitting down next to her. Shani stared at Amilia with wide eyes. "T..Thank you Amilia.. but!" She stood up and placed her paws on Amilia's shoulder, pushing her to a lying position. "I'll eat that in a bit, you need to rest and get dry yourself! You're so cold!" Amilia had gotten half of her body wet and was still damp as she didn't give herself time to dry off.

Confused she looked at Shani as she cared about her. "I- I'm fine. I mean I- uh." She stuttered then sat down. Well, Shani was right. Amilia was so focused to help Shani that she totally forgot to care about herself, but that's normal for Amilia. Now she felt a little bit cold as she thought about it. She started to lick her fur to make Shani satisfied, but kept an eye on Shani to make sure she eat the hare.

Suddenly she sneezed and coughed. Her eyes felt so heavy and she had problems to keep them open. You have to stay awake, she told herself and shook her head. Finally she didn't have the power to to stay awake and laid her head on her paws. Sneezed again. Her eyes felt warm. Hopefully she won't get ill.

Shani stood up with a start when Amilia sneezed and coughed. She ignored the hare and started trying to lick Amilia's fur and warm her. "Don't worry about me, I'm fine. We need to get you dried off and warmed up before  you get sick. I'm sure the healer would be upset about that, and it still being winter, I don't think they have a surplus of herbs at the moment."

It was actually fairly cozy in their makeshift den. Amilia was not soaked, but was still a little damp. After a while, Shani finally got the water off Amilia's coat and she had started to dry. Amilia's eyes were closed now. She must have fallen asleep.. Shani snuggled around Amilia, putting her head on top of her back. Her eyes drooped as well. She was exhausted from the ordeal, and they needed to stay warm until they fully dried off. If they went out now, they would be sure to get very sick.

Slowly Amilia opened her right eye and blinked a few times. She lifted up her head and looked at Shani who laid curled up next to her. Amilia felt way better then yesterday. A yawn interrupted Amilia's thought, then she looked outside. It could be already afternoon, but that wasn't easy to see because the branches above didn't let much light come through. She stood up slowly and carefully, tried not to wake up Shani. Then she walked out of their den. Time for breakfast, she thought.

It didn't took long to catch squirrel, what's weird because they aren't common in winter. With the prey in her mouth, Amilia trotted back to the den. She laid the squirrel down and said softly "Hey, Shani." Poking her gently. "You should eat something."

Shani was snoozing heavily and drooling a little bit. She awoke to a gentle poke in her side and snorted, jumping up and looking around dazedly in surprise. Seeing Amilia, she relaxed and wiped her mouth.

“Ah! Amilia, how are you feeling? You're not feeling bad, are you?”

She looked down to see the fresh squirrel that Amilia had caught. She smiled and went over to grab the rabbit Amilia caught earlier. She brought it and dropped it in front of Amilia.
“Don't forget about this! It's a little old, but the coolness of the cave kept it nice and it's not too cold.”

Then she looked stubbornly at Amilia. “I'm not going to eat anything unless you eat something too.”
Right before her stomach growled loudly.

Amilia looked at Shani's belly. "Well, then I should eat something before your starving, right?" She smiled at the liger and took a bite of the prey. After she finished her prey she looked back to Shani "I think we should go back to the camp. If we aren't in camp for one night it's not a big deal, but if we stay longer they're going to worry." Amilia looked outside the den. The day seemed to be nice though. "I feel good enough to walk back, what's with you?" She asked a bit worried.

Shani grinned at Amilia, and helped her clean up the rest of their meal.

“Heheheh! I'm fine Amilia, really! It's been a lot of fun hanging out with you! I hope we can do this again sometime soon! I was more worried about you! You gave me a scare. I thought I would have to take you back to camp to get treated if you got sick.”

She purred and butted her head gently against Amilia's head.

“Let's get back! Hopefully Father isn't worried too much about what happened to us.. he's going to chew my ear off.” She chuckled.

As they rose and headed off back to camp, Shani felt a twinge of guilt that her actions, or lack thereof, could have put them both in a lot of trouble.

I'm going to have to be a lot more careful...
